Our Story, Mission, and Values

My name is Alan Weinstein, and I am the founder and CEO of Percepta Social. The company was founded in large part because I am not on social media (unless you count LinkedIn). That became problematic when my girls became teenagers and wanted to be active on Snapchat, Instagram, and TikTok, but I had no desire to create accounts and follow them there. That left me in the dark as to what they were saying and what was being said about them online.

When I started researching the market to see what tools were available to help me, I didn’t like the results. Everything I came across had two major flaws in my opinion: 1) The focus was on filtering, blocking, limitation, or specialized hardware 2) The reviews were poor with users commonly experiencing glitches or the kids working around the software.

So what makes Percepta Social different? Teens keep their privacy in text messages, direct messages, and non-public sharing. Of course, as parents, we (my wife and I) have the right to look through any aspect of the phone at any time for any reason. The goal of Percepta Social to be educational and informational about how you are perceived by others online based on public postings. After all, college coaches, admissions offices, and future hiring managers will be looking at social profiles, so there is no better time than now to be aware of how teens come across online. The hope is that teens take their Percepta Social Score seriously and really think about what they are putting online before it becomes public as opposed to this being for the comfort of guardians.

The company was coming to life around the time the landmark lawsuit ruled against Meta and Google for their social media negligence. The lawsuit could ultimately change the landscape by limiting social media use by those under 18 or drive users to other apps. That would be bad for business at Percepta Social, but long term a win for society if the next generation were delayed from their start in social media.
